Chef Joy Parham

hk3Chef Joy Parham is a Philadelphia native with food on the brain. Joys love for cooking began at a very young age watching her Great-Grand Mother create sweet treats for family, friends and neighbors. Every moment spent in “Mom Mom’s” kitchen was a chance to learn more about different foods and flavors.
Throughout Joy’s teen years she moved from neighborhood to neighborhood in and out of the Philadelphia area. Growing up the constant movement became vital in helping to shape her unique palate. West Indian, Spanish and Latin, and West African cuisine have all become strong influences when crafting new dishes.

At the age of 18 Joy was accepted to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Academy of Culinary Arts. After the completion of her coursework she traveled to Florida to begin her externship under Executive Chef Mark Quitney. At the Marco Island Marriot Resort, Spa, and Golf Chef Joy excelled at every task, never allowing her limited culinary experience to limit her. Following Joy’s time in Florida she enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania to pursue a B.S of Hospitality Management

Throughout Joy’s college career she worked hard to gain more knowledge in the kitchen and the classroom. In a short span of only 5 years Joy worked her way up from line cook to kitchen manager in various restaurants and catering companies, began a small catering business that serviced not only locals but the university also; all while maintaining good standing with the university. In addition she structured and facilitated events focused on cultural awareness and diversity, health, and minority advancement in the hospitality industry.

After the completion of Chef Joys studies at Indiana University of PA constant growth remained her goal. She spent time consulting for small restaurants and also cooking with James Beard Award winning Chef Guillermo Tellez, Brulee Catering Company by Chef Jean-Marie Lacroix and the Kevin Parker Company. While supervising a small kitchen in Philadelphia Joy was given the opportunity to work with Michelin Star Chef Gordon Ramsay as a chef contestant on the FOX hit “Hells Kitchen”

Today Chef Joy is enjoying her time experiencing the diverse dining culture of Philadelphia, cooking, traveling, and blogging. Joy has begun to blaze a trail and she has no intentions on looking back; always reminding herself that the “The recipe of life only has 3 simple ingredients; Passion, Persistence, & Positivity”.
